My QTH is Warren, Tx, my Favorite modes are Phone, JT-64, and FT-8, I have several nets on echolink that I frequent, Kowabunga net, Grits N Gravy, Saturday morning International DX net, to name a few.
My brother and I both have HTs for 2m and 70cm, and are in the process of putting together the main shack, in the room where Dad had his shack. Dad had a receiver for Short wave but didn’t have a transceiver and although he was a radio operator in the U. S. Navy, he never took his license exam to get a Ham License.
I Became interested in Radio Communications when my parents were in the Tall City CB Club in Midland, Tx, and that is also when my love for Electronics began. I took two years of electronics in High School and took projects to region and state competition. When I started Lamar University, I majored in Electrical Engineering, before Changing my Major to Industrial Electronics Technology.
While a Freshman, one of my Fraternity Pledge Brothers took me over to the Ham Fest in Houston in 1983, and we also visited with the father of one of our other Brothers who was a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator and showed us his shack I’m not sure what License class he was but he did have one heck of a Beam antenna, I was hooked.
I got scared off because of the Code requirement at the time and then after 34 years I finally
on March 7th of 2017, I Passed My Technician Exam. Then on May 18th 2017 I passed my General Exam, and on June 25th 2017 Passed my Amateur Extra Exam.
I have Joined the ranks of the Volunteer Examiners and will be working with the rest of the VEs to Teach Class and administer Exams.

Hi, I’m Earnest, K5EWM, and I listen to HF a lot.  You never know what interesting things are being said unless you listen.  I like building my own antennas and I have some commercial built antennas.  Nothing like blowing through noisy band conditions with a well engineered homemade antenna system.

We live 10 miles northwest of Warren, TX.  I was granted my technician license on March 3, 2003 in Yuma, Arizona.  We used our radios primarily as we traveled in our motor coach on a fulltime basis and as we Jeeped with other 4-wheelers.  Amateur radio operation is not my passion but I appreciate its importance and value to our community.  I am a charter member of the Tyler County Amateur Radio Association.

We got our tech licenses for simplex communication during our years living full time in our motor coach. We also used ham radio while 4 wheeling off road. Our use of ham radio resumed when the TCARA was formed.

After listening to my husband’s amateur radio contacts for over 40 years, I decided to obtain my Technician Class license in September 2013 — only because I wanted to support the newly organizing Tyler County Amateur Radio Association.  My commitment is to support the community service activities of TCARA/ARES and the amateur radio operators who put so much energy and enthusiasm into their amateur radio hobbies.  Only because Chuck Petri was teaching a course in Woodville, I attended his class and obtained my General Class license on March 8, 2015.

Charles Zimmerman, W5VNO
Advanced Class
Woodville, Texas
ARES, TCARA VE Team

My QTH is located 6 Miles northwest of Woodville, TX. I was licensed as K4BSH when I was in high school in Alabama in 1960. In 1970 I moved to Houston and was issued call sign, W5VNO. In my early ham years I worked DX but my passion over the years has been keeping schedules with ham friends and recently experimenting with digital voice and other data modes. Presently my favorite bands are 160, 17, and 2 meters. I am privileged that my father, wife, son, daughter, and son-in-law are also hams.
